(Boston Free Tour & Hot Seat approaching! www.rsdfreetour.com / www.rsdhotseat.com. I've never run an event in Boston before and am psyched after watching "The Town"! Also doing San Diego and San Francisco in December. Bootcamps are double wait listed in Boston but there are still spaces for the "Tyler/Jeffy" bootcamps in SD and SF -- Free Tour & Hot Seat are coming to SD & SF as well!)

Soooooo, got a lot going on and been back on the silly 16hr day mode lately to make deadlines, but wanted to get up a Wednesday article to keep up the Monday - Wednesday posting!

Been thinking lately it would be good to have Jeff, Ozzie, Brad, and Alex post one article per month on Mondays and then do one myself each Wednesday. Playing with the format, just depends on the amount of content available and if I can get it organized.

Anyway today's video is a short clip that I culled from the larger Hot Seat bonus video (an extra section I did for Hot Seat alumni at the LA Free Tour). The entire video is super valuable but I wanted to share this short segment from it on RSDN because it's well-explained -- and frankly if you don't "get this" you're going to continually be hurt, bruised, and destroyed. :)

I also wanted to emphasize that the story about my buddy -- he started doing this a bit before I shot the video, but I've seen him do it consistently since I shot it six weeks ago. Don't think you can't do it -- YOU CAN. It's not difficult, and it's purely "in your head". Believe you can do it and you WILL.

Anyway the Free Tour has really been one of the coolest things I've ever done. You can probably tell by the videos how much I've been enjoying it.

It's funny because I'm being pulled in many different directions right now, and ultimately the most important skill is knowing which opportunities to turn down and which to focus on. I think many people envision business owners as trying to network with as many people as possible and make important connections, but I generally keep a small group of friends who are just funny and idiots like myself (just guys I do stupid shit with to crack myself up when I have free time).

People often ask me "How do you envision RSD in five years?" and usually it's questions about "how will you grow?" A big secret to RSD is I've always answered "I dunno, don't care, just focusing on this DVD set now, this seminar now, this website now, etc etc".

People are often surprised but I think anything more than a vague plan for growth is mental masturbation. You grow by getting done your current task and then moving to the next thing (obviously you need a GENERAL IDEA of where you want to go -- but the second if makes you feel like your CURRENT task is too "small time" for your big-shot self image, you've believed your own press and you're screwed).

In my own case, the past year has really been focusing on the Free Tour, Hot Seat, and Bootcamp. This sounds idiotic to most big shot business people I know, because they feel I should be working "ON" the business and not "IN" the business. However I've always believed I'd grow to become one of the main public speakers by my forties and the way to do this is by GETTING OUT THERE AND DOING EVENTS.

If you've seen Jerry Seinfeld "The Comedian" you see him walking around the streets looking for sets to perform -- ANYONE who will listen to him run his material. That's how I feel -- I always want to get out there and get my stuff more polished, get into the clubs and get my game sharper with girls (being a pimp translates massively into your presentation skills), etc etc.

I usually run my events late because I want more time to experiment with new and sharper ways of explaining things, to take risks with humor and entertainment of the audience, and to adapt my emotions to being in teacher-mode for longer hours (the big shots all do 7 day events -- you don't get adjusted to that overnight).

I view it like DO MORE WORK and you will get MORE BACK --> not "how to do the least amount of work and get the most out of it" like so many people strangely seem to believe. This seems to be trendy in the info-marketing industry and they think they're clever for getting more for less, but I think they're shortchanging themselves because they'll never reach their potential as teachers.

This past year I've been video taping every Free Tour and Hot Seat to review later, which I typically watch myself speaking about 2-3 hours a day. I look at how I'm managing my energy and the way my content is coming across to the audiences -- if it's connecting, if it's entertaining, if it's creating epiphanies.

Maybe you think it's awesome, maybe you think "decent but why not better?", or maybe you think no matter what you see it sucks. That's not important -- everyone will have different opinions, that's a GOOD thing especially if people are talking.

What's important is I do the best job I'm capable of. This will sound odd to share but it's actually the last thing my grandmother said to me on her deathbed: "If you're Prime Minister or a garbage man it doesn't matter to me, just do your personal best, that's all I want for you".

(Thinking "I'm going to be THE BEST" is defining yourself by other people's standards, instead of the personal pride you get from knowing you did the best job you could. Other people can provide a benchmark of what's possible, but it's irrelevant if their abilities exceed your own -- what's valuable is to learn from them and get more enjoyment from your own process.)

All this was the same approach I took to getting good with girls. I kept at it for many years and still keep at it to this day. Every weekend I go out there with the intention to CRUSH. I love the game because I'm addicted to women but ALSO because I love how it forces me to have fun, to use my willpower to make the right decisions, and to STEP UP.

I love how at the start of the night I don't want to do anything, and then I have a CHOICE: I can step up and hit, hit, hit, or I can be lazy and make excuses about how I'm "too good" to follow the fundamentals. I always make the choice to step up and make big things happen, and then my willpower gets emotionally rewarded by women.

Anyway I thought I'd slam this out quickly because I thought some people might find it to be interesting, but also because I'm going to be making a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT about the Free Tour this Wednesday.

I've recently decided to extend it beyond this year as I'd originally planned. I hadn't done a Free Tour in 7 years previous to this past year, but part of my decision to extend it a bit further was that I feel like the event is growing in it's potential -- and I'm getting consistent feedback from people getting laid the same night I run it, getting amped up, etc, which tells me the way I'm communicating is operating at a higher level than it has in the past.

I'm going to dish the dirt on this on Wednesday, so be sure to hit back to see what's up!

I've got some really big things planned that you're going to be excited about -- including a video compilation of the entire 2010 Free Tour with BONUS CLIPS which I've never previously released, as well as a "lost tape" I found of an old LA event that I think contains many valuable secrets which I'd honestly forgot about (I stumbled onto it by random coincidence last night on an old external hard drive -- shocked I never put this out).

Still deciding what to do with these, but whatever it is, it's going to be GOOD. Have an awesome day, and hit back on Wednesday to get in the loop!

    Tyler

PS: If you're in Boston, THIS is the time I'm coming. I'll also be in San Diego and San Francisco later in the month. Check the schedule below.
